Terms of Service

1. About ScamAlert
ScamAlert is a community platform where people in Sri Lanka can report online scams, share evidence, and warn others. Reports are reviewed by moderators before being published. By creating an account or using the platform, you agree to these terms.
2. Truthful Reporting
You must only submit reports you believe to be true, based on your own experience or evidence you can provide.
Knowingly submitting a false, misleading, or malicious report is a serious violation of these terms and may also expose you to legal liability under Sri Lankan law, including defamation claims.
Reports should describe the scam and the scammer's methods. Do not include private personal information about individuals beyond what is necessary to identify the scam (such as the phone numbers, accounts, or websites used in the scam itself).
3. Moderation
Every report and every piece of evidence is reviewed by our moderators before publication. We may approve, reject, or remove any content at our discretion, and we record the reason for each decision in an audit log.
Moderation decisions do not constitute a legal judgment that a reported party committed a crime. Published reports represent the experience and claims of the reporting user, supported by evidence reviewed by moderators.
4. Your Account
You must provide accurate registration information and keep your password secure. You are responsible for activity on your account.
We may suspend or ban accounts that submit false reports, abuse other users, attempt to manipulate votes, or otherwise violate these terms.
5. Your Content
You retain ownership of the content you submit. By submitting it, you grant ScamAlert a worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display, and distribute it as part of operating the platform.
You confirm that the evidence you upload does not infringe anyone's rights and was obtained lawfully.
6. Prohibited Conduct
Do not use ScamAlert to harass, threaten, or defame any person; to settle personal disputes unrelated to scams; to post spam or advertising; to attempt to gain unauthorized access to the platform; or to scrape or republish platform content in bulk without permission.
7. Disclaimers
ScamAlert is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do our best to verify reports, but we cannot guarantee that every published report is accurate or complete.
ScamAlert is an informational community resource. It is not a substitute for reporting crimes to the Sri Lanka Police, the CERT|CC, or other competent authorities. If you have lost money to a scam, we encourage you to file a complaint with law enforcement.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, ScamAlert and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform, or from the content posted by other users.
9. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Sri Lanka.
10. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced on the platform. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
